PARANORMAL ACTIVITY |
|
|
Sorry no images. This is the ultimate low budget film. However, it may go down the same road as "The
Blair Witch Project" only creepier. In fact, this was the creepiest movie I've seen since I was a kid! Director Oren Peli leads a virgin cast into the going-ons of a haunted house. Perfect for Halloween. The story of how the film is rolling out nationwide is as compelling as the film itself. In order to
get the film - moviegoers have to go to the website - Paranormal Activity - and demand
a showing in their community. Initially the film was only showing at midnight but it is starting to hit bigger markets for regular screenings. |

When a young couple starts to hear noises at night in their San Diego home, the boyfriend (Micah Sloat) buys a camera to film their sleep
and check for any disturbances. Sure enough, strange things are afoot in the bedroom while the lights are out and the couple
discovers that their is an invisible demon that is after the girlfriend (Katie Featherston), and the camera at night is capturing everything. It is these activities that are creepy. For example
on one night, Katie is filmed standing still at the foot of her bed for two full hours with no memory of it. Yet another has her being dragged across the floor by this unseen entity.
Twenty-one days pass with incidents more terrifying than the last, until all hell finally breaks loose. It is during this segment "Paranormal Activity" takes on a direct "Blair Witch" look as we
get first person accounts and that damned jittercam. (They are using the camera as a light to see in the dark.) "Paranormal Activity" is spine tingling stuff. It get the hairs raised much like the 1962 version of
"The Haunting" did when I was a child. The best part? The entire budget for the film was $11,000! Ouch!
"Paranormal Activity" is a testament to good storytelling and original creativity. They prove you don't need millions of dollars to scare the
shit out of someone! --GEOFFREY BURTON
