TWILIGHT: NEW MOON |
|
|
Part two of Stephenie Meyer's teen-targeted saga of vegetarian
vampires leaves me just as unmoved as the first. For that I commend for the consistency. The Twilight series
is strictly for fans... and there are millions of them worldwide. To be sure, the first film, "Twilight" yanked in $350 million bucks worldwide thereby
guaranteeing this sequel. |

This time around Bella (Kristen Stewart) decides to
indulge her fantasies for the love of vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). Little does she realize that her passion for him will bring about
great peril for herself from the vampires that prefer humans. Edward tries to keep her out of the vamp feud but it is too late, the
meat-eaters have her targeted for lunch. Just like a cheap soap opera he now must come to her rescue before
she becomes chomped. |

Again, this is strictly for the fans of the series. There are
quite a few who will dislike it. I'm one of the latter. Vampires are supposed to suck blood -
human blood. This is a rule that was established 68 years ago with "Dracula". The only exception was with vampire assistants like
Dwight Frye's Renfield who was relinquished to sucking blood out of rats and roaches. (One of the creepiest scenes in
cinematic history.) "Twilight: New Moon" is a continuation of doom of our youth's appreciation
for really scary stuff. What good is a child who doesn't understand that vampires drink human blood - a dog, cat, or cow in a pinch. The production values are top notch, but that is the extent of it
for non-fans! --GEOFFREY BURTON
